Is your work no longer fulfilling you and will you look for something completely new outside your qualification? Getting into a new field is not easy at all, but it is not impossible. It is important to state in the CV and explain in the interviews the main reasons that lead you to change. Let’s look at it together.
First step:
Indicate in your CV the reasons that lead you to change the field.
Posting responses to selected ads that interest you, but having nothing to do with it at all, would just make no one answer you. Missing experience does not necessarily mean that you are not suitable for the position. Lots of employers are looking for junior workers to train according to their company rules and habits, so sometimes that can be a plus. But it is necessary to give the right reasons that will convince HR professionals.
Second step:
Write why you want to change your current field.
Why do you apply for the job, what motivates you and what do you expect from this position? You can also describe how enthusiastic you are about the position and what it means to you. State why you are interested in the field, what you know about it and why you would be a benefit to the company.
Third step:
Sell yourself.
If you have any experience in the field that interests you, sell it. Describe it in the CV. If you are applying to an HR manager and you have recruited people in your previous job, write it down. Are you interested in programming and have no experience? Write and show your work. For example, the code you wrote, the application you created. Do you enjoy graphics or photography? Show your portfolio. Having experience in the field does not only mean working, it can easily be your hobby.
ALL THESE REASONS MENTIONED ABOVE WILL DEFINITELY INCREASE THE CHANCE OF A PERSONAL INVITATION TO AN INTERVIEW. BUT DON’T YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHERE TO WRITE THEM?
- Cover letter: If you are responding to an ad on the web, be sure to include a cover letter in your application for the position. It is ideal to write this short report directly “tailored” to the job offer. All you have to do is write down the position you are applying for and that you are attaching a CV and a motivation letter in the attachment.
- CV: In your CV, you can state your “why” reasons in a special paragraph at the beginning. Write for example: I am an experienced HR specialist from XXX. After ten years of experience in HR, I decided to move my career towards IT. In addition to my work responsibilities in human resources, I also participated in the activities of the IT team in the company. I would like to make more use of my analytical and technical thinking. I have always been interested in the field of information technology and in my free time I devote myself to it, eg I create e-shops. They can offer you their enthusiasm for work, the ability to learn quickly, systematic work and analytical thinking.
- Cover letter: A cover letter is an ideal place to write that you are aware of your lack of experience in the field, that you are very motivated and that you are very interested in further education and development in the new field. Write everything you can and be specific.
And finally – be aware that compared to other candidates who, unlike you, have more experience in the field, you have a harder time finding a job. If you get to a given position, it is almost certain that you will have to start at a lower position and with a lower salary. So think in advance if it’s worth it to you and it’s really what you want.
